What I Learned by Visiting Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is an island country in South Asia near South-East India. It is historically recognized as one of the world’s largest tourist attraction centres. Sri Lanka is a diverse and a multicultural country. It is also a cosmopolitan country. It therefore comprises of many religions such as Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Ar theists.

Ethnic groups and languages in Sri Lanka are also diverse. Inhabitants of Sri Lanka are hospitable and non hostile. It is an all language country. In addition to the majority Sinhalese, it hosts Sri Lankans and Burghers, Malays, Moors, Kaffirs, Indian Tamils and the aboriginal Vedda.

In Sri Lanka peace and unity

While visiting Sri Lanka, I learnt many facts that made a long-lasting impression and changed the perception i earlier held about Sri Lanka. First, I used to perceive any island Country as as being associated with perpetual conflicts with neighboring countries. In Sri Lanka however, peace and unity are the pillars upon which national development is based.

There is adequate evidence that the country is thriving. it has ten major hotels that make it unique and different from other countries. These are Helga’s Folly, Jetwing Vil Uyana, Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge, Boulder Garden Hotel, The Mansion, The Grand Hotel, Heritance Village Hotel, Aliya Resort and Spa, Sigiriya Village Hotel, The Blue Water and Dolphin Beach Resort . These are only but to name a few of the hotels.

Wide variety of foodstuffs

Apart from just enjoying the beautiful sceneries around and inside the hotels, I also enjoyed a wide variety of foodstuffs. Main meals consumed by Sri Lankans include Those, Pol Sambol, sour fish curry, Dhal or Lentil Curry among other delicious meals. Breakfast dishes were mostly String Hoppers. Milk Rice and Sweetmeats are especially served as special occasion and festive meals. All the meals, Rice and Curry is the main meal in almost all households.

Warm climate

Enjoyment and relaxation from these strange adventures was not only necessitated by feasting in the hotels but also basking on the shores of the ocean and the comforting breeze that blow smoothly, especially in the warm climate. The breeze is sufficient to achieve the most desired moments of happiness. you don’t need a comedian to feel happy.

Strange friendly people

In a nut shell, a visit to Sri Lanka makes one a fresh, young and healthy individual. It is full of enjoyment, adventure and entertainment, meeting strange people who form friendships quickly and easily, making one feel at home. the kind of food consumed is popular but prepared in a unique way that you hardly believe its the same food you earlier knew.

A visit to Sri Lanka is enjoyable.

What I learned after visiting Cambodia?

Known as the kingdom of Cambodia, Cambodia is a country situated in Indochina peninsula. The country is famous for its low-lying planes, mountains and its gulf of Thailand coastline. Its capital Phnom Penh is home to the art deco central market which is famous for its architectural and historic exhibitions. It is famous for its ruins of Angkor Wat, which is a stone complex which was built during Khmer empire.

You will need a proper passport and a Visa for Cambodia . Tourist visas are valid for one month after entry into Cambodia. It is a great place to visit and enjoy however I had some misconceptions regarding the country which could only be cleared by visiting the country. I had the opportunity to visit the country and in this article, I would sum up about what I learned after visiting Cambodia.

These were some facts that I learned after visiting Cambodia

  1. The Khmer rouge left a serious damage to the country and more than 1.5 to 2.5 million people were killed in the genocide. Even though the Khmer rouge ended in the 20th century yet crimes against humanity are tried in the courts even today. More than 40% of Cambodians live in poverty and the average income is much less than $3 per day. The best you can do is to buy the local products which would help the locals better their condition to some extent.
  2. Angkor is a tourism spot but it is a religious temple first so you must behave well like you are in a church and the Cambodians would appreciate it.
  3. If you are volunteering for any of your skill you should make sure that your resources could help the ones in need. If your stay is short then it would be better to help people who can learn in a few time.
  4. You must avoid kids who are found selling any postcards or gums as they are quite poor and a few pennies would not help them come out of their poverty. Parents encourage such activities instead of sending them to school.
  5. It is considered very rude in Cambodia to use left hand to point at anything, you must use your right hand to ask for directions or any food item.

Out of many problems, these were the ones I think were the most important one which would help you with your stay in Cambodia. It is a great place for the social workers as there are a thousand problems that need fixing, however, I admired my stay in that beautiful country.

Top 5 Foods to try in Myanmar

I am a serial foodie and all my regular readers know that I can resist anything but delicious-looking food (particularly a dish I never had before). I have been to Myanmar a couple of times and each time I am fascinated by the food this uniquely beautiful country has to offer. While Myanmar may not be one of the popular countries on the face of the earth, its food is, and it is loved equally by the natives, by the people of the neighboring countries and by the Westerners.

Let me make your mouth water by listing top 10 foods to try in Myanmar here.

1. Burmese Duck Curry

I never tried a Duck Curry before in my life. I don’t like to eat ducks that much, I love them as living beings, they are one of my favorite birds, but Bagan experience told me that these beautiful creatures can be yummy as hell.

2. Pickled Tea Leaf Salad (Lahpet Thoke)

Although I have had enough street food in the past, I am not a big fan of it and I always have a phobia that I might get sick eating it. I had Lahpet Thoke (Pickled Tea Leaf Salad) twice on my two different trips to Myanmar, once in a nice Yangon restaurant and the other time at an average restaurant in Sittwe town. I enjoyed it both the times so much that my mouth is watering writing about the dish.

3. Mohinga

Most bloggers will tell you that Mohinga is the best dish that the country of Myanmar has to offer, but from my experience, it is one of the best dishes that you will ever have and I rank it as the third best food that this unique country has to offer. It is extremely delicious but I am not a big noodle fan.

4. Burmese Ginger Salad

Made with spicy ginger, salty fish sauce, fried lentils, peanuts cabbage, chickpeas, chickpea flour, and garlic silvers, Burmese ginger salad looks as delicious as it tastes.

5. Burmese Biryani

Originated in Hyderabad, India, Biryani has come a long way making its way to different cultures and nations. Myanmar has its own version of the dish which they call Burmese Biryani and sometimes also Burmese Chicken Biryani. The best thing I had in the beautiful city of Naypyidaw was a plate full of this toothsome and magnificent dish.

Canada is a beautiful country with warm and friendly people. If you are traveling to Canada, make sure you do a bit of planning. Spend some time to sort out your itinerary, things to do, places to be, what to eat and how to move about.

Expense approximations

The most important thing to do if you are traveling to Canada for the first time is to calculate your expenses for the first few days at least. Make sure you have some extra cash at hand for unforeseen expenditures.

The cost of accommodation significantly depends on the city you are planning to stay in. Keep an estimate of around 65 – 100 CAD per night. If you are planning to stay more than a few days, you might want cheaper rates. Try checking popular travel websites for lowest rates.

Eating out in Canada is expensive. Eating out at restaurants can easily range from 15-40 CAD per meal. If you are visiting for a few days, then you might want to try out sandwich stalls or fast food restaurants for meals under 15 CAD.

There are multiple options for transportation within the city including buses, metro, and taxis. A metro ticket costs 3.25 CAD for adults, 2.75 CAD for seniors and free for children under 12 years of age. If traveling across cities there are great transport buses such as Megabus, Red Arrow and Greyhound. Renting a car is another option but it is expensive ranging between 30 and 75 CAD, plus you will need a driving license. You can also call a cab or share one with other passengers to save money.

There are lots of outdoor activities to do in Canada. Most activities such as canoeing, skiing, snow-boarding, and hiking are expensive. If you are planning to try some outdoor activities make sure to have an extra 200-300 CAD for fun! If you don’t have that kind of budget, then opt for some nightlife at pubs or bars, or enjoy a walk in parks.

Daily budget

Overall you much keep in mind a daily budget of at least 100 CAD. If you spend less than that, that’s great; but as they say wish for the best and prepare for the worst!

7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Going to Australia

Australia the land of fresh air and unspoiled nature! Its multicultural society adds to it’s magic but the real beauty of living in Australia is its laid back lifestyle and the amazing climate! The job opportunities and healthcare system make Australia a dreamland and this is why I moved to Australia! If you are thinking of traveling or moving to Australia here are the 7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Going to Australia.

Australia is extremely expensive

A meal can cost up to AUD $20 and a bed in a Sydney hostel can cost around AUD $40 per night! A one-way short trip with the subway can cost you AUD $5.60. If you are planning on spending a month in Australia make sure you have at least AUD $3000. Buy hey! You can find a job through a working holiday visa and once you start getting paid at AUD $20 per hour life will become more affordable.

The Australian Laws

Let me explain this, the Australians (the people) are very friendly and laid back… that is true. But the law in Australia is so strict that even sometimes Australians claim they are living in a “nanny state”!. The judicial system is so unnecessarily strict and controlling on even the most minute issues. You can be fined an AUD $110 for not stopping completely (take your feet off the pedals and place them on the ground) at a stop sign! But as a bonus, that makes Australia much safer than many other countries.

The Cities Are Boring!

There is very little special Australian things to do around cities. Yes, Australia does have a huge number of amazing restaurants and a growing number of cafes but nothing much is special to be done around the cities, more specifically nothing that is considered uniquely Australian that deserves travelling to see.

Don’t Expect To Be Surrounded By Kangaroos and Koalas!

Unlike the image that you may have in mind no, you will not be surrounded by kangaroos and koalas and you will not see them hopping around you all the time! They are not common to spot in highly populated areas but you can still see them in the wild but then you’d have to go to a national park or a reserve.

Not Tipping Culture

That is one thing you will definitely like about Australia, there is not tipping culture. You are not expected to pay a time to your taxi or leave a little more for the waiter in restaurants. Workers are paid very well in Australia compared to other parts of the world so there’s no need to tip, it’s just not part of the Australian culture.

The Sun

The sun is very high and strong in Australia. You have to stock up on sunblock you can get burned in just 15 minutes on a cloudy day! Yes, it is that strong so cover up, use sunscreen, stay hydrated and balance your time between the sun and the shade.

Welcome To The Offline World

The internet in Australia is very expensive AND slow! So you need to adapt to the fact that you will be going offline.

That said, these are the 7 things 7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Going to Australia. But one thing for sure no one told me is that you’ll never want to leave Australia… the beauty!
